feeling festive... ?

...lately my timing has been off with trying to bag an etsy treasury spot, every time i pop by to have a peek it seems that i'm about a half hour too late ~ very frustrating! especially when my favourites are piling up and looking great for some lovely festive themed treasuries, i seem to have developed quite a taste for the classic red and white combo...

...monsieur francois de la minestre by ninon...

...sardana screenprint by roddy and ginger...

...christmas bow - recycled greeting card by ruby recycled...

...dala horses by found vintage style...

...french alarm clock by sadie olive...

...hot water bottle sweater by a crooked sixpence...

...blossom lady by tsktsk...

...linen pincushion by namolio...

...even just looking at these now is getting me into the festive mood and i'm quite keen to start 'decking the halls', but i do think it's a wee bit early yet to be dusting off the tree and baubles!
...maybe a more subtle approach is in order this year, i think i need to have a root around and see what crafty bits and pieces i can find red and white. i do know i have a few odd balls of cream and red yarn so i think a festive garland is order ~ watch this space ;)

papernstitch...

...it's not long now, one month til christmas ~ eeek!

...have you started your pressie buying yet!?

...i think i'm doing okay this year, i have a few things waiting in the cupboard, one or two things waiting to be made and plenty of ideas for the rest. hopefully i haven't forgotten anyone and hopefully i have plenty of time to make everything i want to, but no doubt on christmas eve i'll be frantically finishing the ends on a scarf and desperately trying to wrap everything for the next morning! it just wouldn't be christmas if everything was finished and ready on time, or there wasn't that sense that you had forgotten something quite crucial... ;)

...but maybe that's just me! maybe you've already got all yours and they're sitting in the cupboard already perfectly wrapped!? ~ i hope not... ;)

...anyway, if you are in need of more ideas then pop over to papernstitch, the newest exhibition just launched on monday. there are tons of beautiful shops this month with some really lovely gift ideas, as well as some great festive decorating ideas too. here are just a few of my favourites...

...clockwise from top left ~ My Fine Garden : newivystyle : Inklore : noussnouss...

...clockwise from top left ~ ninon : go make me : namolio : fric de mentol...

...clockwise from top left ~ nice package : Sleepy king : kitty rogers photography : Wiyomu...

...and if you look really closely you may just find one or two granny chic goodies lurking in the corner... ;)

...i'm running a wee bit late this week, it has been a long and restful weekend ~ lots of sleeping, watching movies back to back and recovering from a nasty winter bug...
...thankfully my man is back to full health and back at work today, giving me lots of time to catch up with all the pretty goings on here in cyberland. after almost three days of not popping in for a wee peek at my blog, flickr or etsy, i think today i'm going to 'sit back and relax' with a cuppa in hand and catch up with all the goings on...

...one 'going on' that i did already notice was that the lovely Victoria (of sfgirlbybay) featured my forever flower garlands, along with the mosaic from my last post, in this lovely post on friday ~ thank you Victoria :)

weekend inspiration and a touch of 'glee'...

...i think a wee pick me up, with some weekend inspiration from flickr, is the perfect way to round off the week. somehow i always find a few minutes for browsing flickr, updating groups and adding lots of pretty pics to my favourites, but it's been a wee while since i've been able to indulge myself by playing with the mosaic maker. today i have treated myself to just that and looking through my favourites i found these lovelies...

...1. Faire Houre ~ decor8, 2. a 'cluster of glee'... ~ dottie angel, 3. Untitled ~ *piou*, 4. Untitled ~ lobster and swan, 5. Untitled ~ sandra juto, 6. _MG_9158 ~ simplygrove, 7. more soft trees! ~ the purl bee, 8. Untitled ~ hrsmithjones, 9. around the house ~ super ninon...

...i think my favourite colour combination has to be these non-colours (cream, white, grey, beige and black) with lovely snippets of red, olive, mustard, teal and orange. i can't help combining them in my crochet work and i love seeing them being applied so beautifully in these pics...

...and especially in this gorgeous festive door ornament that miss Tif (aka ~ dottie angel) posted on her blog yesterday as part of her 'week of glee'. miss Tif was also lovely enough to tell all of how she made this 'cluster of glee' in her post...

...if i can find a few odd balls of yarn that i'm willing to part with i shall definitely be adding a wee bit of festive, granny chic 'glee' to my studio...

...have a fabulous weekend everyone!

a quiet day...

...i'm having a quiet day today, actually we're all having a quiet day today...

...it is raining relentlessly outside, the park was flooded this morning and the wee man almost refused to go for his walk at all. he hates getting wet, he hates getting his paws wet especially. (but for some reason only drinks from a puddle if he's stood right in the middle of it ~ don't ask me, i've got no idea how his wee brain works sometimes!?) but he endured, and after his twenty minute ordeal he was dried off, popped in his bed with a blanket over him and is now happily snoozing away the afternoon...

...he's not the only one, we also have my man at home today. he's also snoozing away the afternoon, but not the good kind of afternoon snooze that is usually enjoyed on a lazy sunday afternoon. no, he's feeling extremely sorry for himself and very poorly indeed as he was up all night worshipping the 'porcelain gods' with some nasty winter vomiting bug...
...and me? well, i'm feeling a wee bit fuzzy around the edges today, a wee bit sleepy and a lot like i don't want to do very much at all. i've got a pile of crocheting to do but i think that can wait, instead i have pottered about here on my blog...

...at first i thought of just tweaking a few things, doing a bit of tidying up and rearranging. but before i knew it i was redesigning, paring back and de-cluttering. i know i did a wee re-vamp just the other week but i wasn't perfectly happy with it, it still felt cluttered and fussy. so this morning, after pondering over the 'look' i wanted to achieve, i came to this layout. lots of clean lines an lots of white interspersed with splashes of yummy colours...

...i think there is probably a wee bit more tweaking to be done, some of those widgets aren't sitting as nicely as i'd like and some of them may get the boot all together. i think i'll look at again in a few days with fresh eyes and a much less sleepy head. even then i'm sure there will be some wee niggle that i won't be able to leave alone...

jo hamilton...

...i can't believe i've only just discovered the crochet talent of Jo Hamilton!

...how incredible are these portraits!? i'm utterly fascinated by her attention to colour and detail, and how she has captured such a wonderful sense of depth and character. i would really love to see one of these pieces up close to read the stitches and study the construction. i think it's probably lost a wee bit in these pics, but they must have an wonderful texture too...

...even though the portraits are quite special i think my favourite piece has to be this city scape of Portland, i'm completely mesmerised by the mix of colours and the geometry of the whole thing...

...if you check out her website you can see more of her crochet pieces alongside some of her drawings and paintings. info is a wee bit thin on the ground, but as far as i can tell she studied at Glasgow School of Art and now exhibits in the US. if anyone knows any more about her or her work i would love to hear it ~ thank you :)

...and i think if i ever get my portrait done it's going to have to be in crochet and maybe made into a granny cushion, or possibly a pot holder ~ what do you think!?

colour your monday happy...

...and banish those winter blues!

...wood (& wool) x-mas tree by wood & wool stool...

...The Nomad by *Dragonfly*...

...Sunburst Afghan by welshkaren...

...Orange and blue by kitschcafe...

...It's all about perspective by Johan & Natasja...

...good luck charms by ATLITW...

...i'm being completely self indulgent with these images today simply because i'm in need of a bit of warmth and 'a wee pick me up', i'm feeling very chilly and would have very much loved to spend the whole day under my duvet ~ but as it's monday and i'm far too disciplined for my own good, here i am bringing you a wee bit of inspiration for the week :)

(also, there's no one here to bring me tea and biscuits in bed as the wee man has been very stubborn and, despite my best attempts, has refused to learn this command... yet!)

...so anyway, i chose this beautiful wee collection because they fill me with such a sense of cosy warmth, and in turn i'm feeling quite motivated to tackle a big pile of yarn that i have lots of crocheting plans for!

...oh, and i would love to see some of edinburgh's old tenement buildings painted in those gorgeous oranges and blues of kitcshcafe's pic, how yummy would that be!?

...if you're in need of more colour and warmth head on over to 'all colours in' with a steaming hot cuppa and maybe a biccy, or two!

pretty wee flowers, all in a row...

...so who deserves a gold star, or maybe a wee gold crochet flower would be more apt!? i'm sure all of you do! of course these wee lovelies were destined to be strung into pretty 'forever flower garlands' :)

...it's been such a long time since i've spent a few quiet minutes just crocheting flowers, i had almost forgotten how soothing and satisfying they are ~ they're so quick, very pretty and best of all they're a great use for all those oddments of left over yarn, which i seemed to have accumulated a lot of after all those hours of 'pot-holdering'...

...and what i love about making them into garlands is their ability to pretty up the place in an instant! perfect for adding a much needed splash of colour and a touch of 'granny chicness' to a now bare wall...

...i'm also thinking they would look fab draped around a christmas tree, but at the moment i'm drawing the line at unearthing our wee tree from the depths of it's dark cupboard, certainly not in november anyway!
...i'm sure there are plenty of other ways to use these 'forever flower garlands', but at the moment i'm quite taken with the granny chic christmas tree idea, and this time i'm actually thinking my man might not object especially since it isn't a permanent feature!
...now i'm wondering if i can sneak in a carefully chosen twig artfully painted white ~ something like this ~ hmmm, i think i'm going to have to get a wee bit crafty ;)

...if you have any other ideas for these wee lovelies i'd love to hear them, and i'm sure i don't need all three so i shall pop one or two in the shop over the weekend...
...well, maybe ;)

keeping my promise...

...about the big reveal...

...about the secret project i've been so desperate to tell you all about...

...well, the time has come...

...drum roll please...

...pot holders...

...what's that you say? you already knew i was making pot holders!? ~ well, of course i knew you lovely lot would have already already figured out what i was making ;)

...but the really exciting thing is where they are going and what they are for...

...in less than two weeks these lovely ladies will be gracing the beautiful white walls of a fabulous wee gallery ~ the Peter Potter Gallery in Haddington, just outside of Edinburgh...

...a few weeks ago i got a wee message asking me if i would like to take part in their christmas exhibition ~ well, yeah!!!

...so i got busy with my wee hook and replenished the ranks with a bit of autumn colour. then off they went, narrowly missing a couple of postal strikes en route!

...and now they are just waiting for the big day, their first christmas party on the 20th november, when hopefully they will meet lots of new friends who will want to take them home ;)

...although now that they have gone my wee studio is looking bare and in need of some yummy colour...

...it's just as well i have this pile of crochet flowers 'hanging' about isn't it!?
